BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – In Berlin on Thursday, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held discussions with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul. The talks aimed to strengthen cooperation between the two nations in economic and development sectors, while also addressing regional and international issues, diplomacy, peace, and security. This meeting coincided with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE and Germany widen strategic partnership in Berlin
UAE-Germany talks in Berlin highlight expanding strategic and economic cooperation.

The officials explored strategies to deepen the strategic alliance and promote collaboration in multiple areas. Sheikh Abdullah characterized UAE-Germany relations as robust and resilient, emphasizing ongoing cooperation and shared commitments to advance sustainable economic prosperity. During the meeting, Wadephul and Sheikh Abdullah exchanged perspectives on mutual interests and diplomatic approaches to crisis resolution.

The broader state visit added structure to the bilateral ties, with Germany’s Federal Government noting it as the first time a UAE president made a state visit to Germany. President Sheikh Mohamed met Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and together they announced a new Strategic Dialogue, which will encompass security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, technology, digitalization, transport, environment, culture, and education.

    Expanded dialogue enhances bilateral relations

Both governments supported establishing a German-UAE Investment Council to boost public and private sector collaboration and welcomed the renewal of the Joint Economic Committee along with outcomes from a bilateral business forum. The visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda valued at over 9.356 billion euros, as stated in the joint declaration. Additionally, a UAE investment package worth 40 billion euros in Germany was announced.

Economic collaboration also covers energy, cutting-edge technology, and digital infrastructure, with the joint declaration highlighting ongoing and planned projects involving LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It also referenced plans for advanced data centers with roughly one gigawatt of capacity. Both parties identified artificial intelligence and emerging technologies as key sectors within their expanded cooperation.

Diplomatic discussions focus on regional stability

The foreign ministers addressed regional and international developments during their Berlin discussions, emphasizing the importance of international efforts to sustain peace and security. They underscored diplomacy as a primary means for crisis resolution, aligning with themes raised during the state visit. The German government had also included Middle East peace and stability among the key subjects for the leaders’ meetings.

Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Minister of State, attended the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul, where foreign policy, economic cooperation, and development were discussed within the bilateral framework. The state visit linked these dialogues with formal mechanisms for investment, strategic partnerships, and sector-level collaboration. These Berlin engagements mark the latest step in the UAE-Germany Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, established in 2004.
