CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, both featuring significant upgrades in camera technology, performance, and battery life. These new devices showcase a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with a variable aperture, marking a first for the iPhone. Powered by the latest A20 Pro chip and equipped with a redesigned thermal system, they are available for pre-order starting September 12, with retail sales beginning September 18 across more than 65 countries and regions.

The camera system on the iPhone 18 Pro offers four selectable aperture options to fine-tune lighting and depth of field, supporting apertures of f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8 and f/4.0 on its main sensor. Additionally, it includes 48-megapixel Ultra Wide and Telephoto cameras. New Pro controls within the Camera app enable users to manually adjust aperture, shutter speed, and white balance, while a histogram can be viewed during photo or video composition.
Apple has also launched Reference Image, a feature that users can opt into to verify photo authenticity by capturing signed sensor data when taking a shot in Reference mode. This data produces a reference image for comparison against edited versions in the Photos app. The company is further enhancing the system with support for image metadata and the SynthID standard, which will be introduced through a software update later in 2026.
Pro camera controls expand with variable aperture
The A20 Pro chip, fabricated using a 2-nanometer process, features a six-core CPU and a seven-core GPU, along with a Dual 16-core Neural Engine totaling 32 cores dedicated to AI processing. Apple claims the GPU offers performance boosts of up to 40% over the A19 Pro. A redesigned vapor chamber enhances surface area and supports sustained performance. The devices also incorporate Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread connectivity through Apple’s N1 wireless chip.
Battery life has also been extended across the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Apple estimates eSIM-only models can last up to 36 hours for video playback, while the Pro Max reaches approximately 45 hours under the same conditions. The iPhone 18 Pro can achieve a 50% charge in roughly 15 minutes with compatible wired accessories. The removal of the physical SIM tray in these models frees up space for larger batteries, with eSIM-only variants planned for sale across several Middle Eastern markets.
Siri AI Debuts with iOS 27
Shipping with iOS 27, the new phones support Siri AI via Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices configured in English, with plans for support in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish starting in October. The software leverages personal context from messages, emails, and photos during request processing and can also respond to on-screen content. Apple Intelligence employs on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute for supported cloud-based tasks.
Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199 in the United States, while the Pro Max starts at $1,299. Both models offer storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB, with colors including burgundy, glacier, silver, and black. In the UAE, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at AED 5,099. Preorders open on September 12, with sales commencing on September 18, and another 20 countries and regions are set to receive the devices on September 25.
