CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Egypt’s net international reserves increased to an all-time high of $57.2145 billion at the end of August 2026, according to the Central Bank of Egypt, which released the provisional data on September 7. This marks a rise from $56.2939 billion at the close of July, reflecting an approximate increase of $920.6 million during August, or about 1.6%. This latest figure continues a pattern of monthly growth in 2026, pushing Egypt’s official foreign reserves above $57 billion for the first time.

Egypt reserves set new record at $57.2 billion in August
Egypt’s net international reserves reached a record $57.2 billion in August 2026.

Compared to August 2025, the total reserves in August surged by $7.9638 billion from $49.2507 billion, representing an annual growth of roughly 16.2%. At the end of December 2025, Egypt’s net international reserves stood at $51.4516 billion, meaning the reserves have increased by approximately $5.76 billion, or 11.2%, over the first eight months of 2026. The official monthly figures show a steady rise in reserves every month since the beginning of the year, with gains continuing through August.

The rate of reserve accumulation gained momentum mid-year, with net international reserves reaching $53.1342 billion in May before climbing to $55.0723 billion in June. They then increased to $56.2939 billion in July and $57.2145 billion in August. The increase from May to June was about $1.94 billion, with July adding another $1.22 billion, and August about $920.6 million. Collectively, these three months contributed over $4 billion to Egypt’s foreign reserve holdings.

    Foreign currency inflows remain elevated

Remittances from Egyptians working abroad also reached a record high during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, with the Central Bank of Egypt reporting inflows of approximately $47.3 billion, a 29.6% increase from around $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year. In June alone, remittances totaled roughly $4.2 billion, which was 15.6% higher than the approximately $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025, according to the official figures released in August.

Egypt’s latest available balance of payments data covers the period from July to March of fiscal year 2025/2026, showing a deficit of $1.8 billion over those nine months. During the same span, the capital and financial account registered net inflows of $9.9 billion, while the current account posted a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures provide the most recent official snapshot of Egypt’s external accounts before the August reserves update.

    Reserves Reach New Monthly Peaks

Throughout 2026, the reserve levels have set multiple new nominal highs. Reserves stood at $52.5938 billion in January, rising to $52.7455 billion in February, then reaching $52.8306 billion in March, followed by $53.0092 billion in April, and $53.1342 billion in May. The total surpassed $55 billion in June, $56 billion in July, and finally hit $57 billion in August. The August figure remains provisional, aligning with the standard practice for the latest monthly reserve reports.

Egypt’s August reserve level is now nearly $8 billion higher than its position a year earlier. The country has achieved three consecutive month-end totals above $55 billion, with July marking the first above $56 billion, and August the first exceeding $57 billion. Compared to December 2025, the reserve stock has grown by over 10%. The August data establish a new record for Egypt’s net international reserves and continue the uninterrupted monthly growth trend observed throughout 2026.
