Egypt and Al Dahra Finalize $500M Wheat Deal

EL ALAMEIN, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Al Dahra Agriculture Trading and Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities have established a five-year wheat supply agreement valued at up to US$500 million. This arrangement transitions a 2023 financing plan into an operational import framework for Egypt. Al Dahra will provide imported wheat to GASC financed by the Abu Dhabi Exports Office, with the agreement outlining the procedures for purchases under this existing program.

The deal was signed at Egypt’s Cabinet of Ministers headquarters in El Alamein on Aug. 26, 2026, with Egypt’s Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk—who also chairs GASC—present at the signing. Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, co-founder and managing director of Al Dahra, was also in attendance. The announcement did not specify wheat quantities, shipment timelines, origins, or the pricing methodology for purchases under the agreement.

This financing framework was initially established in August 2023, when ADEX and Egyptian authorities created a revolving wheat import program. The program was set at US$100 million, with renewals each year over five years, reaching a potential total of US$500 million. The original arrangement also involved Egypt’s ministries of international cooperation and finance, working alongside GASC. The 2026 agreement now provides the operational foundation for GASC to buy wheat from Al Dahra within that financing scheme.

Operationalization of the 2023 financing plan

ADEX, the export-financing arm of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, offers funding linked to purchases from Emirati exporters, including wheat and other essential commodities supplied via Al Dahra, according to their 2023 statement. This program formed a five-year structure for those transactions with GASC, and the latest agreement maintains that framework while setting the operational details for Al Dahra’s imported wheat deliveries.

Since 2007, Al Dahra has operated in Egypt, managing agricultural projects in Toshka and East Oweinat. The company reported farming around 28,000 hectares in Egypt in 2023 and supplied over 180,000 tons of wheat to the Egyptian government during the previous three years. This week, Al Dahra announced that its broader agricultural network now spans more than 40 markets globally.

Al Dahra’s Egyptian presence since 2007

While the August 2026 agreement pertains to imported wheat, Al Dahra also cultivates agricultural commodities within Egypt. In 2023, the company described itself as Egypt’s leading private-sector wheat and corn producer, with approximately 85% of its Egyptian farm output sold locally at that time. The current deal involves imported wheat supplied to GASC through the ADEX program, not a separate US$500 million financing package.

This five-year agreement implements the financing plan announced three years earlier instead of creating a new US$500 million facility. Neither party has disclosed the total wheat tonnage covered nor provided details on annual shipment schedules, supplier origins, or pricing formulas. As of Aug. 27, 2026, the arrangement remains a five-year wheat supply program valued at up to US$500 million, financed through ADEX.
